Allison Lee

Hello! My name is Allison Lee, and I am a Freshman at the University of Wisconsin—Madison. I am from Onalaska, Wisconsin. While attending university, I hope to receive a degree in both Political Science and Spanish. In the future, I plan to attend law school and fulfill my dream of becoming a lawyer.

Me visiting the National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C.

Academically, I am passionate about exploring the ways that history continues to impact the current political climate. I also enjoy studying different cultures and their traditions and learning about how that affects individual citizens’ political, social, and cultural outlooks. For these reasons and many more, I am very excited to have the opportunity to participate in the UW Rebels and Revolutions trip to Dublin and Belfast. I am fascinated by the various ways that culture and history have contributed to the relatively recent Civil War in Ireland and to the current tension surrounding Brexit. The impending Brexit deadline makes this trip particularly timely, and thus, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to hear from diverse groups of people regarding their feelings on Brexit and the potential outcomes. I am particularly excited for our trip to Belfast and to analyze and compare the political landscape there to Dublin. I hope to leave this program with a new understanding of the Irish identity in the contemporary era and the evolutions that it has endured.

Maggie

Outside of academics, I love hiking and running with my golden retriever, Maggie. I am also passionate about going to local museums, engaging in community service projects, and mentoring younger students.  I really enjoy finding new ways to connect with others which has helped me develop a passion for traveling and learning new languages. Thus, I hope to learn at least a few phrases in Irish while abroad.
