My name is Matt Proestel and I’m from Bethesda, Maryland. I’m interested in history and political science with a specific fascination in US politics and how history has shaped our current political climate. I plan on majoring in political science with a PEPP certificate, which covers a combination of political economics, philosophy, and politics. My most passionate hobby is rowing. In high school, I was a competitive rower and a captain on the Walt Whitman Crew team senior year. This past May, I received emails about the UW Rebels and Revolutions Program and it immediately appealed to me because it would allow me the chance to meet a bunch of fellow freshman before school even started. I’m also excited about the UW Rebels and Revolutions program and the opportunity it will give me to learn about another culture and system of government. Because of my interest in political science, I can’t wait to see the many historical sites that played an important role in the Troubles. The program will also broaden my political science knowledge, specifically it regards to the British and Irish political structure and climate.
